Women's bowling won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Grand Rapids Classic while the men took seventh Friday in Comstock Park, Michigan.
The Lady Lions were strong throughout the opening four team games, and were even better through the 16 baker games that followed. After opening with 965, they backed that up with scores of 980, 974, and 1008 for a total of 3927. That moved Lindenwood into first place, 106 pins ahead of the University of the Cumberlands in second.

The Lady Lions put on a show in baker competition, starting with a four-game set of 849, including a high of 257. Over the final 12 games, they broke the 200 mark seven more times and posted sets of 806, 826, and 862, their best of the day. With a baker total of 3343 (208.94 average), they outperformed the next team by 250 pins. With an overall total of 7270, Lindenwood won the tournament title by 356 pins over the Cumberlands in second and a whopping 651 pins over third place Concordia University.
While the ladies were doing well, the men's team struggled a bit with a high scoring pace on Friday, particularly in baker play. The Lions opened with a team game of 1022, but three teams in the field shot over 1100. Lindenwood followed with 1004, a solid score in most circumstances, but that was only good enough for sixth place after two games.
The Lions didn't break the thousand mark the final two games of team play. With a total of 3940, they sat in eighth place, 397 pins behind Michigan – Dearborn in first.
Lindenwood couldn't find any consistency during the 16 games of baker. The Lions broke the 200 mark five times with a high of 237, but only managed one set above 800, an 823 for their final one. With a baker total of 2996, they averaged 187.25 for the block. With a grand total of 6936, they climbed to seventh place, edging Kentucky Wesleyan by 56 pins.
In the women's standings,
Hailey Bozych totaled 864 (216 average) to win the individual title and earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Haylie Frick was right behind in second place with 861 (215.25 average).
Liz Rittenour finished 16
th with 765 (191.25 average) and
Samantha Smith totaled 754 (188.5 average) for 22
nd place.
In men's competition,
Emmanuel McPherson led the Lions with a four-game total of 898 (224.5 average) to finish in ninth place.
Jacob Bartosiak and
Jacob Horton each shot 812 (203 average) to tie for 28
th.
Tyler Amos averaged just over 200 and
James Zugmaier averaged right at 200 for two games each to help the Lindenwood cause.
After a weekend off, the bowling teams conclude the fall campaign at the National Team Match Games November 18-19. Competition will take place in Fairview Heights and Belleville, Illinois.
