The No. 12 ranked Lindenwood women's wrestling team opened its season on Saturday at the Luther Hill Open in Indianola, Iowa. The Lions finished the open with 23 pins, second-most in the field. Lindenwood wrestlers went 64-30 overall on the day.
Caitlyn Jackson took home the 117-lb crown as the No. 7-ranked wrestler in the class went 4-0 on the day, which included pins in two matches. Marrissa Sanabria finished in second place at 138.
Emma Thomas compiled a team-high three pins on the day, which culminated in a third-place finish at 160.
Sara Lake who enters the season as the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 207 started her season with a third-place finish. After losing her first match at 145,
Rebecca Strong bounced back to earn third in the wight class.
The Lions had success in the 180-pound weight class, as
Alana Duggan finished second and
Makayla Rivera took fourth.
Three other Lions placed inside the top six of their respective weight classes. The young guns also did well on Saturday in the underclassmen division. Freshman
Caitlin Reiter took third at 117,
Talia Lee took fourth place at 131, and
Kayla Edwards earned second at 138.
Lindenwood will be back in action on November 17
th at the Lindenwood Duals in St. Charles, Mo. They are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
