ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's wrestling team completed day one of the NCAA Region Six Championships on Saturday at Hyland Arena. Three Lions advanced to the regional semifinals, which are set to begin Sunday morning.
Kate Cooper (110),
Jacinda Espinosa (138), and
Alana Duggan (160) all went 2-0 on the day to reach the semifinals.
Kate Cooper defeated Victoria Pena of Texas Women's in the opening round with a fall (1:30) before coming out on top against Chadron State's Rylee Balcazar with a 6-5 decision in the quarterfinals. She will face McKendree's Gabrielle Tedesco in the semifinal round.
Espinosa received a bye in round one before taking down Zainab Ibrahim of William Jewell with a fall in the quarters (2:53). She will face Peyton Hellman of Fort Hays State in the semis.
Meanwhile,
Alana Duggan advanced with a pair of technical falls, defeating Ayana Medina of Linfield 10-0 in the opening round and Pacific's Paige Beals 12-2 in the quarters. She will face Savannah Gomez of McKendree in the semifinals.
Four additional Lions are still alive in the consolation bracket after posting 2-1 record on day one, including
Sienna Caruso (103),
Talia Lee (131),
Madeline Haynes (145), and
Makayla Rivera (180).

Regional action concludes on Saturday in Hyland Arena, with competition set to resume at 11:00 a.m. The top three finishers in each weight class will advance to the first ever NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championships, which are set to begin March 6
th in Coralville, Iowa.
