EVANSVILLE, IN. - The Lindenwood Women's Tennis team wrapped up their second tournament of the Fall on Sunday at the three-day OVC Fall Championship tournament in Evasnville, Indiana.Â
On Friday,
Fabiana Labrador defeated Tennessee State's Aroa Arrieta Castill in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-1 in the A flight.
Michelle Trochez also competed in the A flight, but narrowly dropped her match in three sets to SEMO's Sofia Zmtsova by a score of 6-7 (3-6), 6-4, 1-0 (7-5). In the B flight,
Megan Caffin and
Sofija Dunisijevic both picked up wins in straight sets as Caffin won 6-1, 7-5 and Dunisijevic won 7-6 (6-4), 6-3. The C flight saw
Paola Garcia receive a bye while
Mathilde Humbert defeated SIUE's Emerson Metzger 6-0, 6-2.
Aisha Merchant would fall in her match in the C flight by scores of 6-1, 6-1. In doubles play, Labrador and Garcia picked up a win in the A flight while Humbert and Trochez won their match in the B flight.Â
On Day two, Labrador would pick up right where she left off after day one as she beat TSU's Aroa Castillo 6-1, 6-1. However, the Junior from Venezuela fell in her second singles match of the day by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Caffin and Dunisijevic also started off with wins in singles play, but would both fall in the second round as Caffin forced a three set thriller after winning the second set 6-3. Humbert picked up three wins in singles play on Saturday, as Garcia added two wins of her own. The duo would combine for a 6-0 record through the first two days in singles play. On the doubles side, each duo would split their two matches on the day.Â
In the final round of the tournament,
Mathilde Humbert would again go undefeated in singles play in the C flight to finish the tournament strong. Garcia and Humbert would meet up in the Flight C championship match where Humbert would win in three sets by scores of 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). Garcia ended the tournament with a 4-1 record, whille Humbert went an impressive 8-0 over the three days.Â
The Lions will return to action on Thursday for the Missouri State Invite in Springfield, Missouri.Â
