On Tuesday afternoon, the Ohio Valley Conference announced that Sophomore
Megan Caffin has won the OVC Singles Player of the Week after going 3-0 last week in two conference wins over Southern Indiana and Western Illinois. This marks Caffin's first OVC Singles Player of the Week award in her career.
Caffin won two of her three singles matches in straight sets to help the Lions start off conference play 2-0 for the first time in the Division I Era. The native of Amsterdam, Netherlands started off her week with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the number three spot over Southern Indiana's Rylie Wilkison on Wednesday, and followed that with a set one victory over Eastern Kentucky's Ceylin Ipek by a score of 6-4 before winning by Ipek retiring on Thursday. Caffin then ended her week on Sunday at Western Illinois with a two set victory over WIU's Richardlyne Francois by scores of 6-2, 6-3 and was the only Lion to win her singles match in straight sets on Sunday morning.
Caffin and the Lions will return to action tomorrow afternoon at Tennessee State beginning at 1 p.m. CT for their next OVC match.
