The Lindenwood indoor track and field teams opened the season Friday at the Saluki Fast Start. Francine Simpson won a pair of events on the women's side and the men had a strong showing in several events.
Simpson won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58 and later captured the long jump individual title. Sarah Talimonchuk finished sixth in pole vault to round out the women's side.
On the men's side, the Lions had a strong showing in the field events, highlighted by Bruno Boccalotta's third place finish in the weight throw. Jim Freeman was fifth in the shot put and Ryan Brinker nabbed fifth in pole vault.
Matt Peterson placed sixth in the 600-meter run for the Lions and Duane Whitaker finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles.
Lindenwood indoor track and field will next compete in the Missouri Invitational on January 9.
