Track and Field Dominate HAAC Indoor Championships

The Lindenwood men and women track and field teams both captured HAAC Indoor Championships with dominating performances Saturday.

The women won the conference title for the third straight year, scoring 226 total points, 125 more than runner-up Central Methodist. A total of 10 events were won by the Lady Lions at the two day event held in Lamoni, Iowa.

Individual champions were Francine Simpson in the 55 meter dash, China Moore in the 55 meter hurdles, Keith Kotan in the 400 meter dash, Rachel Hemphill in 600 yard run, Yasmina Elkasmi in the 3000 meter run, Jessica Ching in the 3000 meter racewalk, Cecilia Mboua in the triple jump, and Simpson in the long jump.

The 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams both logged the fastest times to grab conference titles. 

Other notable performance were Melissa Yount finishing third in the 55 meter hurdles, Jan Bennett was third in the 1000 meter run, and Alexis Gutterman placed second in the 3000 meter racewalk. The distance medley relay team recorded a third place finish.

In the field events, Amanda Leung was second in the pole vault, Kaitlin Moore and Mboua finished second and third respectively in the long jump, Irina Reinhardt was second in the weight throw, and China Moore finished second in the pentathlon.

The men put together an even more impressive outing, scoring 270 total points, 179 more than Graceland to capture the program's third straight conference crown. Not to be outdone, the men also won a total of ten events.

Individual champions were Jerone Mitchell in both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes, Joshua Schmidt in the 600 yard run and the 1000 meter run, Jim Freeman in the shot put, Bruno Boccalotta in the weight throw, Gerrico Shanklin in the high jump, and Jerome Gobert in the heptathlon.

Once again, the 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams both recorded the fastest times at the event.

Other notable performances were Javon Claxton finishing second in both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes, Romain Menard finishing third in the 600 yard run, Nicholas Yegon and Matt Petersen finishing second and third respectively in the 800 meter run, Mustapha Habbani placing third in both the one mile run and the 3000 meter run, and David Lindemann finishing second in the 3000 meter racewalk.

Demetrius Jackson was third in the triple jump, Ryan Brinker finished second in the pole vault, Dominique Johnson was second in the high jump, and Mitchell Heady placed second in the weight throw.
