Justiene Groothuis Scores Seven Goals vs. BYU (Video)
The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team got its annual tournament off to a good start with a 13-8 win over No. 7 Brigham Young on Thursday evening at Hunter Stadium.
Lindenwood jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the game and led 9-4 at halftime. The Lady Lions then scored the first four goals of the second-half before BYU put four balls in the net in the final 12 minutes of the game.
Justiene Groothuis led Lindenwood with seven goals, including four of the team's first six scores of the night.
Ashley Bruce had a pair of goals, and other scores came from
Laura Boland,
Lacey Vatland, Kathyrn St. George, and
Ana Gullett.
Christie Mearns made seven saves in goal,
Eleni Papadakos was 14-of-21 on draws, and Groothuis and Bruce combined for 15 groundballs.
Lindenwood continues play at the event on Friday with a contest against No. 13 Michigan.
