Lindenwood Sweeps 2010 HAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The Lindenwood men's and women's outdoor track and field teams dominated the 2010 HAAC Championships in Atchison, Kan. this past weekend. The men won for the seventh consecutive year, and the women captured its third straight team title.

The Lady Lions won 12 of 23 events, posting a total of 257 points, 123 more than runner-up Baker. Lisa Hughes was the top points scorer on the women's side, and head coach Ed Harris received Co-Coach of the Year honors.

Individual champions for the Lady Lions were Cecilia Mboua in the long jump and triple jump, Hughes in the shot put and discus, Keith Kotan in the 400 meter dash, Yasmina Elkasmi in the 5,000 meter run, Jan Bennett in the 400 meter hurdles, Jessica Ching in the 5,000 meter racewalk, and Angela Krausz in the hammer throw. Lindenwood swept the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 relay competitions as well.

Other top finishers on the women's side were Ashlee Dorsett finishing third in the 100 meter dash, Teneignue Coulibaly and Kotan placing second and third in the 200 meter dash respectively, Coulibaly finishing second in the 400 meter dash, and Rachel Hemphill posting the second fastest time in the 800 meter dash.

Elkasmi was second in the 1,500 meter run, Bennett placed second in the 100 meter hurdles, and Amanda Lueng finished third in the pole vault competition.

Irina Reinhardt was second in the hammer throw and Lisa Hughes finished fifth. Jessica Ecker placed second in the discus and third in the javelin throw, and Claudia Mieke finished fifth in the javelin toss.

China Moore was second in the heptathlon, finishing with a total of 2,377 points.

The men won 10 of 23 events, totaling 261 points, 52.5 more than second place finisher Central Methodist.

Individual champions for the Lions were Jerone Mitchell in the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash, Joshua Schmidt in the 800 meter run, Romain Menard in the 400 meter hurdles, Mustapha Habbani in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Demetrius Jackson in the triple jump, Jim Freeman in the shot put, and Bruno Boccalotta in the hammer throw. The Lindenwood men also captured championships in the 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter relays.

Other top individual performances for the Lions were Javon Claxton finishing second in the 200 meter dash, Habbani, Michael Aitkin and Samson Chirchir placing second, third and fourth respectively in the 5,000 meter run, Aitken second in the 10,000 meter run, and Brian Soule finishing third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Ryan Brinker was second in the pole vault competition, Mike Tzianos finished second in the shot put and the discus throw. Mitchell Heady and Nick Orf were second and third respectively in the discus throw. Heady finished second in the hammer throw and Freeman was third. David Lindemann placed second in the 5,000 meter racewalk.
