The Lindenwood track and field teams wrapped up the final day of the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Saturday in Marion, Indiana. Overall, the women's team placed seventh out of 65 teams, scoring 37 points, and the men's team finished ninth out of 74 teams with 26 total points. The Lions snagged two national titles and seven other top-ten finishes during the three-day meet.
Day 1
Bruno Boccalotta claimed the Lions' first title, throwing for a distance of 60.87 meters in the hammer throw. Jim Freeman followed in 13th with a throw of 52.39 meters.
On the women's side, Celia M'Boua came in third place in the long jump with a distance of 5.84 meters. In the javelin throw, Natasha Mouratidou finished fourth, lauching the javelin 42.24 meters. Claudia Mieke competed in the first four events of the heptathlon on Thursday. She won the shot put with a toss of 11.09 meters, but placed 11th in the high jump at 1.47 meters, 16th in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.87, and 16th in the 200 meter dash at 29.62.
Day 2
Lindenwood had a first-place and three second-place finishes on day two. In the women's triple jump, M'Boua took home the Lions' second title with a jump of 13.14 meters and Cynthia Aoufoh followed as the runner-up, jumping 12.71 meters.
Jessica Ching was second in the 5000 meter race-walk at 23:33.34 and Jaleen White placed second in the long jump with a mark of 7.50 meters.
The women's heptathlon finished up on Friday with Mieke placing 15th overall. On the second day, she won the javelin throw with a mark of 38.75 meters, while coming 13th in the 800 meter run at 2:33.13 and 14th in the long jump at 4.53 meters.
In the 400 meter dash preliminaries, Teneignue Coulibaly finished 11th with a time of 57.06, just .32 seconds away from a qualifying position. The men's 4x100 meter relay team also came up just short in qualifying for the semifinals, running for a time of 41.60, just .06 seconds shy.
The discus throw included two Lindenwood competitors, Bryan Kertz and Mike Tzianos. Kertz finished in 20th with a mark of 45.17 meters and Tzianos came in 28th with a distance of 43.09 meters.
Day 3
On the third and final day of the meet, Jim Freeman led the way for Lindenwood, finishing second in the shot put with a mark of 17.23 meters.
Jaleen White added another top ten placing to his collection, coming in ninth in the triple jump, leaping 14.86 meters, and Demetrius Jackson followed in 16th place with a jump of 14.46 meters. Jessica Ecker placed 11th in the discus throw with a distance of 44.84 meters.
In the marathon, Ai Shinohara was 12th on the women's side at 3:08:36.30, and Ryan Irvine placed 36th on the men's side with a time of 2:49:34.20.
