The women's tennis team finished the fall season with a strong showing at the Hinds-Kellogg Women's Tennis Invitational hosted by Western Illinois University.
Mariona Pinol and
Sarah Sharpe both won their singles bracket to lead the women's team.
Pinol took the No. 5 singles title. Her toughest match came in the first-round when she had to win a third-set tiebreaker by a 10-6 score. She did not drop a game in the semifinals and then won the championship match 6-1 and 6-4.
Sharpe won the No. 6 singles bracket in dominating fashion. She dropped just five games in the first two contests, and then won the championship match by scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
Pinol and Sharpe also had the best doubles showing, teaming up to take second at No. 3 doubles. They advanced to the finals with 8-2 and 8-6 victories, before falling in the finals by an 8-3 margin.
Four other Lady Lions went 2-1 in singles action. Gloria Morras at No. 2 singles and
Julianne Sutton at No. 7 singles both finished third.
Daria Ivanova at No. 3 singles and
Alexandra Medvedeva at No. 4 singles won their consolation brackets after losing their first contests.
