Box Score The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team moved to 2-0 on the season at Hunter Stadium after a dominating 19-4 victory over Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon.
It took just 22 seconds for Lindenwood to score the first goal of the game on a
Melissa Menchella score. Lake Erie won the ensuing draw control and got off a shot on goal, but Lindenwood's
Christine Hehmeyer made the save. By the time Lake Erie reached its offensive end for the second time, nearly eight minutes had passed and Lindenwood had built a 9-0 lead.
Lindenwood eventually led 15-0 before Lake Erie scored its first goal right before halftime. In the second half, the Lady Lions slowed the pace of the game down but they still outscored the Storm by a 4-3 margin.
Justiene Groothuis led Lindenwood's offense with five goals, two assists, and seven points. She also caused a turnover, picked up two groundballs, and had three draw controls. Menchella scored four goals,
Lexi Crusha had three, and
Lindsey Palmer had two.
Kathryn St. George,
Kara Cashen,
Jordyn Constance,
Renee Abrolat, and
Taylor Mayeda all had one goal. Players with one assist were Palmer, Cashen, and
Stephanie Tirman.
Ana Gullett led the team with three groundballs and Cashen won four draw controls. Cashen and Gullett also both had a team-high two caused turnovers. Hehmeyer played the first half in goal and made four saves. Brittany Frankenfield played in the final 30 minutes and made three stops.
Lindenwood improves to 3-1 on the season. The Lady Lions will be now be off until March 9 when they play at Dominican in Hillburn, New York.
