Box Score The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team dropped its first-ever game against a nationally-ranked NCAA Division II opponent. The Lady Lions fell to No. 13 Dowling on Sunday afternoon by a 12-7 margin.
Lindenwood came out quickly with two goals in the first two minutes. Dowling settled down though and it was nearly 16 minutes before the Lady Lions scored again. By that time, Dowling had taken the lead for good. Lindenwood trailed 6-4 at halftime and was behind by as much as six in the final half.
Shots on goal were even in the game with both teams taking 20. The Lady Lions turned it over four more times and Dowling collected seven more groundballs.
Lindenwood got a pair of goals from
Lindsey Palmer and
Kara Cashen, and
Lexi Crusha assisted on three goals. Other goals were credited to
Kathryn St. George,
Jordyn Constance, and
Melissa Menchella. Cashen had a team-high five caused turnovers and
Justiene Groothuis, St. George, and
Stephanie Tirman all won three draw controls.
Christine Hehmeyer made eight saves in goal.
Lindenwood falls to 4-2 on the season. The Lady Lions will hit the road again next week for games at Grand Valley State and Regis.
