Women's Lacrosse Wins WILA Championship

Box Score The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team clinched the 2012 Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Championship on Friday, the first NCAA Division II conference title for the Lindenwood Athletics Department. The Lady Lions won the title after defeating Adams State by a 19-1 score.

The game was decided early as Lindenwood jumped out to a 14-0 lead by halftime. The Lady Lions had a shutout going until Adams State scored its only goal with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

Lexi Crusha led the offense with nine points. She recorded four goals, including the game-winner, and also had five assists. The Lady Lions got two goals apiece from Meghan Chase, Danielle Budde, Justiene Groothuis, and Renee Abrolat. Seven other Lindenwood players scored once.

Christine Hehmeyer played the first 30 minutes in goal and earned the win. She did not face a single shot on goal. Brittany Frankenfeld played the second half in goal and made two saves. Jordyn Constance led the team with three groundballs and she had two draw controls and one caused turnover.

Lindenwood improves to 13-2 with the victory. The Lady Lions will be in action again on Saturday afternoon at Fort Lewis State.
