In a three team tri-dual at Hyland Arena Friday night, women's wrestling defeated Missouri Valley College 32-11 and lost on a criteria decision after tying McKendree University 24-24.
In the first dual of the evening against the Bearcats, the Lindenwood Gold squad fell behind 15-0 before mounting a comeback on the strength of match wins by Diaysha Moore in the 123 pound class and Monica Ramirez in the 136 pound division, but Lindenwood still trailed until two straight pins by Amy Spafford at 155 pounds and Victoria Francis at 170 pounds. A forfeit win by Ruth Leger at 191 pounds tied the score at 24, but McKendree claimed the victory by virtue of having more pins in the dual.
Things went much better for the Lady Lions in the second dual against Missouri Valley College. Lindenwood claimed a decisive win over the Vikings thanks to pins from Ramirez, Spafford, Francis and Leger.
In addition to the Gold squad, the Lindenwood Black squad also competed at the tri-dual, but came up empty against both McKendree and Missouri Valley. The Bearcats easily topped the Lady Lions 39-8, while the Vikings stopped Lindenwood Black 21-13. In the second dual against Missouri Valley, Axa Molina was able to earn a win at 130 pounds while Gabby Guzman pinned her opponent in the 191 pound division.
Lindenwood women's wrestling gets two weeks off before traveling to Oklahoma City, Okla. for the Cliff Keen Oklahoma City University Duals October 25-26.
