Women's Lacrosse Opens Season With Big Win Over Shorter

Box Score The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team got off to a great start this season as it handled Shorter University by a score of 18-0 on Friday night in Rome, Ga. 

The Lady Lions scored early and often in the season's first game. Shelby Polk scored the first of her team-leading three goals just 26 seconds into the game and Lindenwood never looked back. The Lady Lions led 7-0 at halftime before breaking the game wide open in the second half with 11 more goals.

Melissa Menchella and Melissa Smith each added three goals of their own to help lead the scoring charge for the Lions. Danielle Budde, Meghan Chase, and Justiene Groothuis all tacked on two goals apiece. Lindsey Palmer, Renee Abrolat, and Maddi Ossello also got on the board with one goal each to round out the scoring for Lindenwood. 

In addition to scoring three goals, Menchella had a team-high two assists on the night. Palmer recorded two assists as well. Annie Blevins had one assist for the Lions. Smith picked up six groundballs and recorded an assist on the night. Ossello and Erin Abbott both picked up five groundballs for the Lions as well.

Goalie Christine Hehmeyer recorded a complete game and made three saves on the way to her first shutout of the season. 

The women's lacrosse team plays again Sunday at noon on the road against Young Harris College.
