Lindenwood thrower
Mitchell Heady made Lindenwood history on Sunday by winning the weight throw competition at the 2013 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The title was the first MIAA individual championship won by a Lindenwood athlete.
Heady threw a season-best 18.90m and won the competition by 0.88m. The other Lindenwood athlete to earn all-conference honors was Terah Fullman. Fullman finished third in the 600-yard run after finishing with a time of 1:24.38.
The Lindenwood women's team finished with 14 points and came in 12th. The men's squad captured ten points and came in 11th. Lincoln won the women's title with 190.50 points and Central Missouri took the men's championship with 122.50 points.
Saturday's Recap
Lindenwood women's team earned five points during Saturday's action. The only individual point came from
Lindsey Blackwell who finished eighth in the weight throw event. She recorded a mark of 14.89m to earn the first point for the Lady Lions. The four other points came from the distance medley relay team. The squad of
Courtney Heidorn,
China Moore, Terah Fullman, and
Tanya Chibanda came in fifth with a time of 12:31.39.
In preliminary events, two Lady Lions advanced to Sunday's finals. Fullman finished fifth in the 600-yard run prelims, and Moore was seventh in the 60m hurdles prelims.
On the men's side, the top Lindenwood showing on the day was
Mike Reynoso coming in fifth during the prelims of the 600-yard run. In field events, the top showing was
Bryan Kertz who came in 15th in the shot put competition.
Sunday's Recap
Heady was the top story of the final day of competition for Lindenwood. He took the lead with a throw of 17.47m on his third throw of the day. On his fourth throw, he recorded a mark of 18.90m. Despite fouling for his last two throws, Heady easily won the competition after only other person just barely cleared 18m.
Fullman, who was fifth in the prelims of the 600-yard run, improved her time by over two seconds and finished third in the finals. Two other individuals ran in Sunday's finals. Moore finished seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.82, while
Mike Reynoso had a lane infraction in the finals of the men's 600-yard run.
The final point for the women's team came in the 4x440 relay. The Lady Lions team of Fullman, Moore,
Jennifer Carter, and
Fiona Brooks came in eighth with a time of 4:06.14.
