Track and Field Programs Both Finish Fourth At Washington Invitational

The Lindenwood track and field programs competed at the Washington Invitational over the weekend. The women's team came in fourth out of 35 teams, and the men's squad was fourth out of 33 squads.

The women's team recorded 67 points at the competition. NCAA Division I Saint Louis won the meet with 82 points, 0.50 more than Washington. Truman State was third with 79 points.

Jessica Ecker led the women's team by winning the discus event and finishing second in the javelin. The discus was one of Lindenwood's top events as Lindsey Blackwell also finished second and Chelsea Smith came in fifth. Also in field events, Claire Buckman was fifth in the pole vault, Kimberly Klenke was sixth in the pole vault, and Michelle Kyle was eighth in the shot put.

The Lady Lions also had success in the hurdles. China Moore was third in the 100m hurdles, Terah Fullman was fourth in the 400m hurdles, and Fiona Brooks was fifth in the 100m hurdles. Other point scorers for Lindenwood were the fourth-place showing by Jerrelle Jones in the 400m and the runner-up 4x100 relay team.

The men's program recorded 52.5 points at the Washington Invitational. Southwest Baptist won the event with 86 points, and William Woods and Washington also finished ahead of the Lions.

Lindenwood's men's team won two events during the weekend. Mitchell Heady won the hammer throw competition and Mike Reynoso was fifth in the 400m hurdles.

Bryan Kertz scored in three events with a runner-up finish in the shot put, a third-place showing in the discus, and an eighth-place finish in the hammer. Also among throwers, Tristan Phillips was fourth in the javelin, John Miller was fourth in the discus, and Alex Fellows was seventh in the discus.  The final points came from a third-place pole vault showing by Edgar Garza.

The Lindenwood track and field teams will be in action next week at the Central Methodist Invitational.
