The women's wrestling team lost to McKendree University 25-21 in a dual Tuesday night in Lebanon, Ill.
The Lady Lions never led at any point and fell behind right away after forfeiting the opening 101 pound match. Two more losses followed when Hanna Padilla was defeated by Tayler Resuriz from the Bearcats by technical fall 12-2 in the 109 pound match and Tori Degginger was stopped by Lindsey Spjut in a 4-0 decision in the 116 pound meeting.
Lindenwood finally notched a win in the 123 pound match as Diaysha Moore pinned Hailee Lilly and the Lady Lions trailed 12-6, but McKendree came right back when Gabby Wehyrich defeated Rachel Fortuna in a 5-2 decision at 130 pounds. Trailing 15-7 and needing a victory to keep things close, Monica Ramirez came through for Lindenwood in the 136 pound match-up, stopping Jasmine Bailey by technical fall.
With the score 16-11 in favor of the Bearcats and four matches remaining, the dual could still go either way, but two key wins by McKendree over Jessica Rodriguez at 143 pounds and Lisa Gonzalez at 155 pounds turned the tide for good. The dual was out of reach for the Lady Lions before Victoria Francis and Mikayla Mathews even took the mat. Despite that fact, the two wrestlers still took care of business, each pinning their opponents in the 170 and 191 pound matches to make the final score close.
Lindenwood dropped to 11-7 overall and has lost four straight duals including two in a row versus McKendree. The Lady Lions get the weekend off before returning to action at the Missouri Valley College Open November 14-15 in Marshall, Mo. Competition begins at 9 a.m. that Friday morning.
