Women's Lacrosse Drops Top-15 Battle

Box Score The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team dropped a top-15 battle on Saturday afternoon at Hunter Stadium. The No. 15 Lady Lions fell to No. 2 Adelphi by a 13-11 score.

Lindenwood had the advantage midway through the second half as it took a 10-8 lead with just under 14 minutes remaining. Adelphi scored five straight goals though after that to win the contest. The Panthers tied the game with two straight free-position goals. It retook the lead at 11-10 with just under seven minutes remaining, and then took a two-goal lead while it had a man advantage with 2:48 left. Adelphi sealed the win when it caught Lindenwood's goalie out of the net with just over a minute remaining.

Adelphi had nine more shots on goal in the game, but Lindenwood's Christine Hehmeyer made 12 saves in the contest to help keep it close. Melissa Smith had four goals and two assists to lead the offense, and Shelby Polk had four goals and one assist.

Maddi Ossello scored twice, Melissa Menchella had one goal, and Erin Abbott recorded two assists. Smith led the team with five groundballs and three caused turnovers, and Shelby Polk had a team-high 10 draw controls.

Lindenwood goes on the road for its next six contests, starting next week at Slippery Rock and Indiana of Pennsylvania.
