Box Score The No. 13 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team won its first road game of the season on Friday night in Slippery Rock, Pa. The Lady Lions defeated Slippery Rock by a 19-11 score.
The game was tight for the first 12 minutes before Lindenwood pulled away with eight straight goals. Three times in that span, it scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. The Lady Lions outshot the home team 39-19, and they also had nine more groundballs and 11 less turnovers.
The duo of
Melissa Smith and
Shelby Polk combined for nine goals and six assists. Smith finished with five goals and three assists. Her five goals came on just six shots, and she also recorded three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Polk had four goals and three assists, plus she had a team-high four draw controls.
Other goal scorers were
Melissa Menchella and
Maddi Ossello with three,
Erin Abbott with two, and one apiece for
Jordyn Constance and Amanda Schmipke.
Lindsey Palmer had two assists and Menchella had one.
Christine Hehmeyer made six saves in goal.
Lindenwood has a top-15 battle on Sunday with a contest at No. 15 Indiana of Pennsylvania.
