Box Score The No. 5 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team clinched an outright RMAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at Hunter Stadium with an 18-1 win over Rockhurst. The Lady Lions finished conference play with a 5-0 record, and they have now been perfect in conference action for three consecutive seasons.
Besides completing conference play, it was also Senior Day for five Lindenwood players. Those five players have helped Lindnewood go 44-6 since moving to the NCAA level, including a 23-0 mark in conference games.
Senior
Melissa Smith was the team's leading scorer on the day with four goals and one assist. All four of those goals came in the first 11:04 of the game to help Lindenwood jump out to a 10-0 lead in that span. Senior
Shelby Polk won four draw controls and was the primary reason why the Lady Lions had an 18-3 advantage on the draw against Rockhurst.
Defensively, senior goalie
Christine Hehmeyer did not allow a goal in over 44 minutes of playing time. She made two saves in the contest. The two senior defenders,
Stephanie Tirman and
Kirsten Walkland, helped hold Rockhurst to just five total shots for the game.
Lindenwood improves to 14-2 overall. The Lady Lions end the regular season on May 3 with a showdown at Limestone. The match will be between the top two teams in the NCAA Division II South Region.
