Lindenwood's men and women's track and field teams got to see some very impressive results out of some its team members on Friday, when they traveled to Columbia to compete in the Missouri Invitational.
Standing out for the women was
Lindsey Blackwell, who won the weight throw, with the best two throws of the day. Blackwell's fifth attempt went 17.72 meters, which turned out to be her best of the day. Just to secure her victory, she threw a 17.6 on her last throw, which also would have won her the weight throw. Blackwell also went on to finish sixth for the Lions in the shot put, throwing over 12 meters. Freshman Zori Holman scored Lindenwood finished third in the high jump for the women.
Kendra Smith jumped an 11.47 in the triple jump, finishing fifth in the invitational.
Shamela Gray finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.59.
The men also did very well in the weight throw, with Jonathan Harris finishing second in flight 1, while
Ryan Hermann won flight 2. Junior Deondra Canaday threw for an invitational best 16.65 meters, giving Lindenwood another first-place finish.
Brannon Wright finished the 400 in 50.72, good enough for a third place finish. DeAngelo Strickling finished first in the 60 meter dash, with a time of 6.82. Senior
Juwan Cubit just beat out his teammate Strickling for first place in the 200 meter dash. Cubit finished with a time of 22.03, while Strickling had 22.04, as the one-two punch took the top two spots in the race. Lindenwood's 400 meter relay team dominated, finishing with a time of 3:24.99 for first place. Members of the team include Wright, Strickling, Cubit, and Jermain Unanka.
Coming up next for the Lindenwood track and field teams is the Central Missouri Invitational in Warrensburg, Mo. on January 23rd.
