Women's wrestling posted a record of 5-3 and finished sixth overall at the Cliff Keen Oklahoma City University Duals October 23-24 at the Freede Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Lady Lions were placed in Pool B and opened with a 44-4 win over Ferrum College. After losing the first match, Lindenwood won the last nine in a row. Savanna Nobile (123 lb.) and Lisa Gonzalez (155 lbs.) each earned pins over their opponents.
The Lady Lions were more impressive in their second dual as they shutout Midland 47-0. Tori Degginger (116 lbs.) pinned her opponent as did Nobile again.
Lindenwood defeated the McKendree purple squad 42-6. Four Lady Lions won by pin including Degginger, Nobile, Axa Molina (136 lbs.), and Monica Ramirez (143 lbs.).
In the fourth dual of pool play, Lindenwood won eight of 10 matches in a 39-9 victory against Life University. Nobile picked up another pin, as did Molina, Gonzalez, Gabriela Guzman (191 lbs.), and Harmonie Roberts (101 lbs.).
The biggest victory of the weekend came against the Oklahoma City University black squad. The Stars opened with two wins to take an 8-1 lead, but the Lady Lions won the next two to pull within one point. After another OCU victory, Lindenwood went ahead 19-13 on the strength of back-to-back wins, the first by pin. Oklahoma City won the next two to regain the advantage, but Nobile earned a 6-4 decision in the final match and both teams finished with 23 points. The Lady Lions ultimately earned the victory by criteria.
Things went differently in bracket competition with Lindenwood dropping three straight duals. The first came against the McKendree black squad by a final of 27-15. Ramirez, Gonzalez, Guzman, and Molina earned wins, but it wasn't enough.
The Lady Lions fell to King University 32-12 in the next match-up. Lindenwood won the first two matches, but lost the final eight.
That sent the Lady Lions into the fifth place dual which was a rematch against OCU. This time, the Stars came out on top 26-19. After winning two of the first three matches, Lindenwood lost the next five and couldn't recover.
The Lady Lions return to the mat on November 6 when they host Missouri Valley College. Action begins at 6 p.m. Friday night at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
