Lindenwood chess traveled to Chicago with two, four-player teams for the U.S. Amateur Team North Championship February 20-22.
Because of a tournament requirement that no squad could have a combined average rating above master level, the line-ups for the Lions were very creative. The first Lindenwood team called "Rocking Richter's Rampart," included Priyadharshan Kannappan, Alex Richter, Nolan Hendrickson, and Brent Butler, while the second team named "Knight Raiders," included Nicholas Rosenthal, William Nesham, Micah Losee, and Alessandro Poppante.
Both teams earned three team victories out of five matches played, with Rocking Richter's Ramparts finishing 20
th out of 74 teams entered. The Knight Riders were close behind in 24
th.
The next competition for the chess team is scheduled for March 13-15 at the Mid-America Open in St. Louis, Mo.
