The chess team found some success with several players increasing their ratings after competition October 11-13 in Wheeling, Illinois.
In his first tournament ever, Joseph Collins landed his first win and went from having no rating to 461. Freshman Ben Thompson finished second in his division after winning four out of five games to increase his rating by 126 to 1433.  Recent transfer and new team member Justus Williams (2445 rating) played in the final round of his division with a chance for third place, but ended up losing a five-hour marathon match.
In the Blitz Tournament Saturday night that featured five minute total time games,
Jeffrey Kendall took first place in the Under 1500 division and Williams took second in the Open division.
The Lions return to action at the Friday Night Quads at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, followed by the Saturday Night Special the following day.
