Day 2 RecapAfter a long indoor track and field season,
Juwan Cubit and
Kendra Smith were the last two competing for Lindenwood in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. Cubit competed in the finals for the men's 200-meter dash, while
Kendra Smith competed in the women's triple jump.
Kendra Smith was the first to compete on Saturday, the sophomore's best effort was on her second attempt when she got an 11.91 meter jump, which placed her 15th. Smith was consistent, having her first jump recorded at 11.65 meters and her third at 11.76. The Lady Lion finished just 0.1 meter shy of cracking the top-ten.
Cubit ran in the prelims Friday to earn his way into the finals with a time of 21.55 seconds, putting him in sixth prior to the finals race. Cubit ran a time 21.80 in the finals, having him finish eighth in the competition. Cubit was the last Lindenwood track and field athlete to take part in an event for the indoor season.
DeAngelo Strickling and
Lindsey Blackwell accompanied Cubit and Smith, but finished their events on Friday. Strickling competed in the men's 60 and 200-meter dash, while Blackwell competed in the women's weight throw.
This will put an end to the indoor track and field season for the men and women. Many will go into the outdoor track and field season; which will be starting March 20th with the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
Day 1 RecapLindenwood had four representatives travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the indoor track and field national championships.
Lindsey Blackwell and
Kendra Smith represented the women's team, while
DeAngelo Strickling and
Juwan Cubit represented the men's team.

Lindsey Blackwell finished 16th in the women's weight throw, throwing for a distance of 17.13 meters. Blackwell threw 18.84 meters in the finals of the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Sophomore
Kendra Smith will be competing tomorrow in the triple jump finals.

For the men,
Juwan Cubit qualified for the finals in the 200, with a time of 21.55 seconds, good enough for 6th place. This was an improvement for Cubit when just two weeks ago in the MIAA Indoor Championships when he ran a 21.94.
DeAngelo Strickling ran the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82, finishing just .04 outside of qualifying for finals in the event. The time was good enough for 11th.

Tomorrow Lindenwood will wrap up its indoor track and field season with
Kendra Smith participating in the triple jump at 4:00 p.m. while Cubit will run in the 200 final at 5:30 p.m.
