Lindenwood's track and field teams got to break in their new facilities on Saturday, when they hosted Truman State, Lincoln University, and Lindenwood-Belleville for the Lindenwood Invitational. All four teams competed in many different events, but none were long distance, as the distance runners had already run at Washington University on Friday.
For the women, the freshman
Zori Holman won the women's high jump, with a height of 1.67 meters.
Kimberly Klenke and
Claire Buckman finished first and second in the pole vault, with Klenke clearing 3.35 meters in the final.
Kendra Smith continued Lindenwood's success in the jumping events by winning the long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters. Smith would also win the triple jump with a distance of 11.75 meters.
Bre Zanders won the discus throw with a distance of 39.51.
Chelsea Smith won the hammer throw with a distance of 47.94 in the finals.
Meredith Owens won the javelin with a distance of 32.28 meters.
Vanessa Cook finished second in the hammer throw and the discus, bot took the victory in the shot put, with a distance of 12.65.
Shamela Gray won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.90 and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles.
Starting things off strong for the men was
Michael Mlambo, winning the long jump with a distance of 7.09 meters.
Bryan Kertz won the discus throw by five meters, after he threw a 47.38. Kertz won the shot put as well with a distance of 13.93 meters. Kertz finished second to
Ryan Hermann in the hammer throw, Hermann threw a 50.31 in the finals. Lindenwood's 100-meter relay team won with a time of 41.62.
DeAngelo Strickling won the men's 100-meter dash, with a time of 10.70, no one else broke the 11 second barrier in the event.
Colin Cernik finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.01.
Juwan Cubit won the men's 200 meter with a time of 22.29 seconds.
At Washington University on Friday,
Travis Staebell ran a 15:49.78 in the 5000, just two seconds off his personal record. Hannah Rae Finchamp ran an 18:29.34 in the 5000.
Aaryn Edge,
Emily Alcorn,
Carina Bungard, and
Valerie Smith all competed at Washington as well.
