Lindenwood had several members of its track and field teams make it to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Lindsey Blackwell finished third in the hammer throw to set the tempo for the Lions on Thursday. Hurdler
Shamela Gray finished sixth in the finals for the 400-meter hurdles.
Kendra Smith also finished sixth in the triple jump. Blackwell, Gray, and Smith will be earning All-American honors.
Blackwell led the charge for Lindenwood by having a 57.57 meter throw in the hammer throw on Thursday. Blackwell also had two other throws over 55 meters, but took the 57.57 as her best, putting her at No. 3 spot for the event.
Also standing out on the women side was
Shamela Gray, who qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles after finishing with a time of 1:00.42 in the prelims. Gray improved on the last day in the finals to finish sixth, with a time of 59.29 seconds. Smith jumped 12.29 meters in the triple jump to finish sixth in the triple jump.
Freshman
Michael Mlambo finished 12th in the long jump after jumping 7.37 meters.
Juwan Cubit placed 16th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.53 seconds.
Bryan Kertz threw the discus 52.51 meters, good enough for 12th place.
Everyone except Mlambo that made it to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships was returning. Blackwell and Gray earned All-American accolades in different events last year, with Blackwell earning the honor in the discus and Gray earning it as a member of the 400-meter relay team.
The Lindenwood women scored 12 points; which was good enough for 23rd out of 67 teams scoring points.
