The Lindenwood men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Pittsburg State Classic Friday and Saturday. There were a few bright spots for the teams, including Akintunde Akinyemi winning the men's high jump.
Michelle Kyle provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II weight throw as she made a toss of 16.96m in her sixth place finish. The same can be said for
Deondra Canaday in the men's weight throw as he placed third and recorded an 18.52m throw, while also finishing fourth in the shot put with a throw of 16.98m.
Xavier Boland finished second in the men's pole vault with a 4.88m best jump.
Kendra Smith performed well again, this time placing sixth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
Lisa Feuerherdt ran the mile in 5:05.54, good for third place and less than seven seconds behind the winner.
The men's distance medley, consisting of
Jerod Broadbooks,
Colin Cernik,
Joshua Newman, and
Zach McKinley, placed fourth with a time of 10:20.15. The women's 4x400 relay finished sixth, with
Jerelle Jones,
Maya Mason,
Michaela Mason, and
Linsey Chapa recording a time of 3:57.26.
Erin Hodge placed eighth in the 60m hurdles after finishing with a time of 9.42 seconds.
Akinyemi was the sole winner for Lindenwood for the event, as he jumped 2.03m in the high jump to take first place. Cernik also placed eighth in the mile, while
Jaron Alexander finished eighth in the 60m dash.
The Lindenwood track and field teams compete next Friday at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge in Columbia, Mo.
