The Lindenwood men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Friday, and saw some success after a long day of competition.Â
Kendra Smith posted a solid performance on the day. In the triple jump, Smith posted a best of 12.05m to win the event, while teammate
Joy Kanengiser finished third.
Taylor Gibson finished fifth with a jump of 10.49m. In the long jump, Smith also performed well with a best of 5.33m which was good for third overall as she was just .18m behind the leader.
Michelle Kyle got back into the win column as she posted a win in the weight throw after a best toss of 18.01m.
Vanessa Cook placed third with a throw of 15.09m, while
Chelsea Smith finished seventh. Cook also recorded a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.22m.
In the 600m run,
Jennifer Carter and
Linsey Chapa finished first and second, respectively. It was close to the finish, but Carter finished just ahead with a time of 1:93.78 with Chapa clocking in at 1:40.00.
Michaela Mason placed third in the 400m fash with a time of 1:01.21, while
Erin Hodge also finished fifth in the 60m hurdles.
The 1600m relay saw a Lindenwood victory with contributions from
Jerelle Jones,
Maya Mason, Mason, and Chapa.
Joshua Newman placed third in the 200m dash with a time of 22.47 seconds, while
Kelvin Lau also finished third in the 600m after finishing with a time of 1:24.95. Zach McKinely placed fifth in the same event.
Colin Cernik ran the 3000m in 8:54.63, which was good for fourth in the event.
Jaron Alexander finished fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97 seconds.
Newman, McKinley, Lau, along with
Hunter Johnson finished second in the 1600m relay for Lindenwood which was less than six seconds behind the winner from Truman State.
Xavier Boland almost edged out the pole vaulter from Mizzou, but finished second in the event with a best of 4.98m. Alex Armstrong added a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 14.70m.
The Lindenwood track and field teams get back to action next weekend for the MIAA Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. from February 26-28.
