Track and Field Closes Out MIAA Championships

The men's and women's track and field teams finished competition at the MIAA Indoor Championships on Sunday night, and both the men and women placed ninth as a team.

Deondra Canaday finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 18.52m, over three meters behind the winner from Central Missourl, but nearly two meters greater than the third-place finisher. Ryan Herman and Alex Armstrong finished 13th and 15th, respectively.

The distance medley consisting of Jerod Broadbooks, Colin Cernik, Kelvin Lau, and Joshua Newman finished with two points for the team after a seventh-place finish of 10:26.20.

Kendra Smith earned four points for the team after her fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a launch of 12:06m. Joy Kanengiser finished 13th with a jump of 11.21m.

Michelle Kyle also picked up five points with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 17.49m. Vanessa Cook placed 11th with a 15.51m mark.

Aaryn Edge finished 30 seconds away from picking up points for the team, but finished 13th in the 5000m run at 18:57.96.

Akintunde Akinyemi earned a win for Lindenwood as he recorded a 2.08m best in the high jump.  

Canaday accumulated more points on the final day as he finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 16.64m. Xavier Boland gave the men's team three and a half points after a 4.79m jump in the pole vault. Jaron Alexander placed eighth in the 60m dash, good for a point for the team.

Cernik finished just outside the top eight to earn points in the mile with a 4:19.99 time, a quarter of a second slower than the eighth place finisher.

Erin Hodge earned eighth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.91 seconds, while Linsey Chapa earned four points with a fifth place finsih in the 600 yard run.

Lisa Feuerherdt placed third in the mile run with a time of 5:04.07, and seventh in the 3000m run with a time of 10:24.77.

The women's 4x400 relay team, consisting of Jerelle Jone, Michaela Mason, Maya Mason, and Chapa, took sixth place.

After competition concluded, the women would finish with 25 team points, while the men earned 29.5, both good for ninth as a team.

The NCAA Indoor Championships begin on March 11th in Pittsburg, Kan.
