The Lindenwood track and field teams wrapped up competition at the two-day Saint Louis Invitational on Saturday evening. The men placed second of the 13 teams competing, while the women finished third of 15 teams.
Deondra Canaday won three of the four the throwing events for the men, winning the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. Canaday set a new record for the facility at SLU in the shot put with his 16.85m throw, as well as in the hammer throw with a 54.84m mark. Alex Armstrong placed fourth in the shot put, as well as second in the javeline.
Xavier Boland and
Michael Mlambo won their respective events in the pole vault and long jump. The 4x400 team consisting of Tre Roby,
DeAngelo Strickling, Lavorie Johnson, and
Jaron Alexander won the event with a time of 41.63, more than a second before the team from Lindenwood-Belleville.
In the 100m dash, Lindenwood secured three of the top four spots. Strickling and Alexander finished first and second, respectively, while Mlambo took fourth.
For the women,
Lisa Feuerherdt and
Erin Hodge each finished second in the 1500m and 100m hurdle, respectively.
Once again,
Kendra Smith won the triple jump, this time with a 12.24m launch.
Lindenwood took four of the top five in the hammer throw.
Michelle Kyle wont he event with a toss of 49.77m, while
Chelsea Smith recorded a 46.16m mark for second place.
Kearstin Cantrell and
Vanessa Cook finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Cook also finished third in the shot put and discus, while Smith placed second in the discus.
The men finished second as a team with 129 points as the women finished third with 124.5 points. Both teams compete next weekend at the SIUE Gateway Invitational in Edwardsville, Ill.
