Kendra Smith Leads Track and Field at NCAA Indoor Nationals With Sixth-Place Finish

The Lindenwood track and field teams had three participants at the 2017 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships, which was held this week in Birmingham, Ala.

Kendra Smith led the way by earning All-American honors in the triple jump. It was her third All-American award in that event in her career, and her second during an indoor campaign.

Smith opened up the event with a first jump of 12.15m. That was good enough to qualify for the finals, but she improved on it with a mark of 12.28m on her third jump. Smith had three more jumps of 12.04m, 12.22m, and 12.20m but couldn't better her qualifying standard. She finished sixth overall, earning three points for the Lindenwood women's team.

Michelle Kyle finished 12th in the women's weight throw. She opened with throws of 17.81m and 17.74m. In her final throw, she had her best mark of the day with a mark of 18.48. That distance however was 0.32m shy of her advancing to the final.

In the men's 800m run, Ero Doce just missed advancing to the finals. He ran a time of 1:53.04 and finished 10th overall out of 16 runners. He missed the top-eight by just 0.52 seconds.
