Lions Sweep Conference Weekend

Men's water polo swept all three games played in the first Missouri Valley Conference Crossover weekend September 16-17 at the Washington University Natatorium in St. Louis, Missouri.  The Lions topped the host Bears 29-5, and then defeated Missouri 29-4 on Saturday.  12791Lindenwood earned a 34-5 victory against Saint Louis University on Sunday.

Jamie Gambin led the offense against Washington University with eight goals.  He was helped by Toni Storic with five markers and Mitch Griffin with four, Andreja Babic and Nikola Vukic with three each, and Marc Tahull, Alex Cukic, and Jacob Jagodzinski with two each.  The Lions shot 65.9 percent overall and were 6/7 with a man-up advantage.  Tahull led Lindenwood in steals with eight, while Jagodzinski had five.  Andres Miranda didn't score, but had three assists to lead the team, along with Tahull and Vukic.  Lance Clark made three saves and Samuel Beckwith stopped four shots in shared goaltending duties.

The best game shooting percentage for the Lions over the weekend was 78 percent against the Tigers.  Every starter scored at list once, led by Storic with six.  Gambin and Babic each added five markers while Tahull had three.  Jagodzinski and Griffin scored two goals each, with Nasev, Miranda, Cukic, and Vukic netting one each.  Nasev had six steals and four assists while Cukic had two steals and five assists.  Tahull, Jagodzinski, and Vukic added three steals each to help the defense and four players each had two assists.  Clark and Beckwith again combined for seven saves in goal.

Lindenwood continued its hot shooting on Sunday against the Billikens, scoring 34 goals on just 45 shots in the contest, with six goals on seven man-up chances.  Storic exploded for nine goals to pace the offense while Nasev helped with six assists to lead the Lions.  Gambin and Vukic each had four steals and Clark and Beckwith each made four saves to lead the defense.

With the three wins and an additional victory from a forfeit, Lindenwood improved to 11-1 overall on the season and 4-0 in the Missouri Valley Division.  The Lions get a weekend off before returning to the pool for the second conference crossover weekend September 30 and October 1.  Lindenwood is currently scheduled to face Saint Louis University at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Missouri S & T at 4:45 p.m.  A single contest is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday against Washington University.  All matches will take place at the Simon Rec Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
