Women’s Rugby Splits Two Home Matches

Women's rugby split two matches at the Lindenwood Track and Rugby Complex in St. Charles, Missouri over the weekend, defeating the Kansas City Jazz Women's RFC 82-14 on Saturday, then the second side falling to the St. Louis Sabres 46-43 on Sunday.

The first game proved a high scoring affair for the Lions with the offense putting 50 points on the board in the first half while shutting out the Jazz.  Lindenwood added another 32 points in the second half while yielding 14 to Kansas City in the final 10 minutes.

The Lions second side had a much tougher battle with the Sabres on Sunday with the squads evenly matched all day.  Lindenwood trailed 21-17 at the break, but after trading several scores in the second half, the Lions held a lead with just minutes left.  The Sabres countered with a solid drive and managed to score a try in the final seconds to take the match.

Head Coach Billy Nicholas was thankful for the challenges.

"It is great having competitive women's club teams close by that can give us good matches," he said.  "We can all take a lot away from both games for areas of team, individual, and coaching improvement.  We are thankful for these tests that will continue to help us grow and challenge one another."

With the split, Lindenwood moves to 4-1 on the season.  The Lions begin a road trip by traveling to Ellensburg, Washington to play Central Washington University October 6.  The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
