Women's wrestling finished second in team competition at the Adrian College Women's Open October 26 in Adrian, Michigan. The Lions totaled 98.5 points to edge third place North Central College by half a point, and to finish seven points behind the host and event champion Bulldogs.
Two Lindenwood wrestlers won their divisions including
Jasmine Ward at 123 lbs.. She stopped Brittney Wolgast from Adrian by fall at 4:06 in the final.
Valerie Gaytan went 2-0 in her round-robin matches to claim the 191 lb. class.
Three Lions advanced to championship matches before settling for second place in their divisions.
Madisen Alvarado went 1-1 in round-robin competition at 101 lbs.,
Rachel Koolstra lost to Zoe Nowicki from Adrian in the finals at 136 lbs., and
Maya Shimizu lost to Yelena Makoyed from North Central College in the 170 lb. division championship match.
Lindenwood entered 13 wrestlers in the event, which marked the beginning of the 2019-20 season for the Lions. They will return to the mat for the Dr. Bob Kellogg Open November 2 at the MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois beginning at 9 a.m. that Saturday.
