The Lindenwood Women's Wrestling team begins their 2025-26 campaign this weekend at the Luther Hill Open hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. The Lions posted a record of 8-6 last season before finishing second at the NCWWC Region VI Tournament and seventh at the NCWWC National Tournament. LU had nine national qualifiers, three of which earned All-American honors.
This season's squad features 15 returners, including six 2024-25 National qualifiers in
Sienna Caruso,
Kate Cooper,
Hayley Gilson,
Makayla Rivera, Marissa Sanbria, and
Rebecca Strong.
Lindenwood welcomes a class of 13 freshmen to this season's roster, including multiple high school state champions. The class features athletes from eight different states, Guam, and Japan.
The Lions came in at No. 25 in the NWCA Preseason Tournament Top 25. Marrissa Sanabria was tabbed seventh nationally in the 138 division, while
Makayla Rivera was ranked tenth nationally in the 180 division.
In addition, three more Lions were ranked in the top five regionally in their respective weight classes, including
Megan Valdez (103),
Kate Cooper (110), and
Alana Duggan (160).
The Lions' schedule features 10 regular season events, including the Lindenwood Duals at Hyland Arena on November 16th and the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 9th.
The NCAA Regional is set to be held Saturday, February 21st at a host site to be announced.
The 2025-26 season will be highlighted by the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships, set to take place March 6–7 in Coralville, Iowa, at Xtream Arena. Women's wrestling marks the NCAA's 91st championship sport.Â
