Three Wrestlers Place at North Central College Women’s Open

Three wrestlers placed and the Lions finished sixth overall in team standings at the North Central College Women's Open December 7 in Naperville, Illinois.  Lindenwood totaled 31 points to edge the host Cardinals by two points.

Competing in the 116 lb. division, Angelique Terrones-Cruz posted a 2-1 record overall to finish second.   She defeated Julia Quan from Fontbonne by technical fall in the second round, then pinned Britney Lamey from Emmanuel College in the semifinals, but she was pinned by Theresa Rankin from McKendree in the finals.  In the same weight class, Valerie Mamleeva also went 2-1 to take fifth place.  After an opening round bye, she was stopped by Lamey in the second round, but rebounded nicely to defeat Abby Eisenbeis from North Central by technical fall.  She earned an 8-1 decision in her final match over Quan for her final placement.

In the 123 lb. division, Jasmine Ward went 3-1 to finish third.  The Lions freshman defeated Morgan Bethea  from Wisconsin – Stevens Point by technical fall in the opening round, then avenged a loss from earlier in the season by pinning Madison Ruckdashel from Lakeland University in the second round.  Ward was upended by Jamayia Blackston from the University of Jamestown in the semifinals, but earned an 18-10 victory in the third place match over Katelynn Gunderson from Lakeland, scoring a five-point throw in the match.

In other action, Shania Melendez went 1-2 in the 101 lb. division.  She scored a technical fall in her victory, but came up short in the match to place.  Alexis Altamira went 2-2 at 130 lbs., and Rachel Koolstra went 1-2 in the 136 lb. class.  Koolstra pinned her opponent in her win, but lost the next match to place.  Belle Erhardt lost her opening match at 143 lbs., but won her next by decision before coming up short in the match to place.  In the 155 lb. division, Kiersten Noonan went 0-2.

McKendree University won the team title with 105.5 points, followed by Emmanuel College in second and the University of Jamestown in third.
