Shotgun sports earned several individual awards at the Missouri Fall Handicap/U.S. Open shoot September 22-27 at the MTA Home Grounds in Linn Creek, Missouri.
Graduate student and captain
Christina Byrd led the way by winning four individual event awards throughout week including Lady 1 Champion for Doubles (Event 9 and 15) and Lady 1 Champion for Handicap (Event 10 and 14). Finishing off the week, she added two more awards to her collection as the Lady 1 HAA Championship with 382/400 and the Lady 1 High Overall Championship with 1152/1200.
Senior and captain
Chase Cunningham also had an impressive week as he collected four individual event awards, including Junior Gold Champion for Handicap (Event 8 and 10), Junior Gold Runner-Up for Handicap (Event 14), and Junior Gold fifth place for Singles (Event 16). Chase finished the week with a 1136/1200 for the HOA event.
Four other Lions proved their strength on the field, each walking away with awards. Freshmen Collin Murer shot a 197/200 in Singles (Event 16) to earn third place in the Junior Gold Division. Sophomore
Ashleigh Painter was the Lady 1 Runner-Up after shooting a 97/100 in Doubles (Event 15). Junior
Gigi Mitchell hit 197/200 in Singles (Event 16) to finish Runner-Up in the B-Class division. Junior
Bret Crigler earned Junior Gold third place after shooting a 95/100 in the Handicap (Event 17).
No squad awards were distributed at this event, however the Lindenwood trap shooters shot well as a group. After three singles events, Lindenwood scored a 1467/1500 overall. Murer led the way with 295/300. Cunningham (294), Mitchell (294), and Byrd (293) also added to the team score with
Ryan Loveless and
Ashleigh Painter tying at 291. After two doubles events, the Lions totaled 953/1000, led by Byrd with 197/200.
Ethan Boyer (192), Painter (189), Cunningham (188), and Loveless (187) also comprised the team squad.
After finishing competition at the NSSA Worlds at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas October 2, Lindenwood shotgun sports will next attend National Trap Day October 10 at the Gateway Gun Club in Hazelwood, Missouri, followed by the MYSSA October 17 at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia, Mo.
