Shotgun sports won the team High Overall Championship and swept or tied all six team events at the ACUI/SCTP Regional March 1-3 at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia, Missouri. The Lions totaled 2,154 targets out of 2,250 to finish 31 targets ahead of second place Hillsdale College.
Individually,
Tristan Stubbs took the Men's High Overall title while Matthew Lorio finished third.
Grace Corselli won the Ladies High Overall championship for Lindenwood.
In the Doubles Skeet team competition, the Lions hit 246/250 to take the title, finishing four targets ahead of Hillsdale in second. The following five contributed to the Lindenwood total:
Reece Sparks (50/50),
Ryan Pena (49/50),
Matthew Blankenship (49/50), Lorio (49/50), and
Trace Hatfield (49/50). Sparks won the individual title with Pena taking third after a shoot-off. Vanesa Donato and
Bailey Lueders finished tied for third in Ladies Individual Double Skeet.
The Lions won the Doubles Trap event with a score of 240/250, finishing nine targets ahead of Hillsdale. The Lindenwood team consisted of: Hatfield (49/50),
Wyatt Newby (49/50),
Landon Sievers (48/50), Lorio (47/50), and Stubbs (47/50). Hatfield won the Men's Individual Doubles Trap title outright with Newby and Sievers taking second and third respectively after a shoot-off. Corselli took second in the Ladies event.
In American Skeet, the Lions totaled 492/500 to edge Hillsdale by two targets. Blankenship (99/100) and Lorio (99/100) led Lindenwood with Sparks,
Jordan Ziercher, Corselli, and
Brett Pray all contributing with 98/100). Blankenship won the Men's Individual competition with Lorio finishing third after a shoot-off. Corselli ultimately took second in the women's individual event after a shoot-off.
The Lions earned a five-target victory over Hillsdale in team Sporting Clays with 461/500. Stubbs and
Christian Jackowski led Lindenwood each with 94/100, and Lorio posted 93/100. Sparks,
Klayton McGee, Hatfield, and
Wyatt Williams all contributed with 90/100. Stubbs took first individually and Jackowski finished third after a shoot-off, while Corselli took second outright in the ladies event.
The Lions edged Hillsdale by two targets for the team American Trap title, finishing with 493/500. Stubbs,
Jacob Diller, and
Konnor Vohs each led Lindenwood with 99/100. Corselli, Donato, Ziercher, Hatfield, and Williams each posted 98/100 for the Lions. Stubbs and Diller finished second and third individually after a shoot-off while Corselli finished first with Donato second after a shoot-off.
Lindenwood totaled 222/250 in Super Sporting to tie with the University of Tennessee Southern for the team championship. Diller and Stubbs led the Lions with 45/50. Blankenship, Sievers, Lorio, and
JJ Ralston contributed to the Lindenwood effort with 44/50. Corselli won her second ladies individual title.
The event attracted a total of 16 teams including Coe College (Iowa), Concordia University (Neb.), Culver – Stockton (Mo.), Hawkeye College (Iowa), Hillsdale College (Mich.), Iowa Central Community College, Lindenwood University, Mississippi State, Missouri S & T, State Fair Community College (Mo.), University of Missouri, University of Tennessee – Martin, University of Tennessee Southern, Vanderbilt (Tenn.), William Penn (Iowa), and William Woods (Mo.).
Shotgun sports will seek its 17
th national title at the 2024 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships March 19-23 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas.
