Shotgun sports won all the team disciplines and captured several high overall individual honors at the Lindenwood Spring Open February 24-25. The Lions hosted a total of nine colleges and numerous high school athletes with trap and skeet competition taking place at the Gateway Gun Club in Bridgeton, Missouri, and sporting clays at Nilo Farms in Alton, Illinois.
In American skeet,
Reece Sparks,
Konnor Vohs, and
Ryan Pena all shot 99/100 to tie for second in the male category while
Bailey Lueders took second and
Vanessa Donato took third in women's competition with both athletes shooting 98/100.
In American trap,
Ciara Hankins won the women's category with a 98/100.
Jordan Ziercher had the only perfect score of 100 to win the men's category with Matthew Lorio,
JJ Ralston, and
Wyatt Baine all shooting 99/100 to tie for second.
In sporting clays,
Konnor Vohs won the overall title with a 94/100, with
Tristan Stubbs taking second, and Matthew Lorio taking third with a 93 and 92 respectively.
Grace Corselli took second in the women's category with 85/100, followed by
Casey Byrd in third with 83/100.
In team skeet competition, Lindenwood tied Fort Hays State for the top position with a total of 493/500. The top Lions scores consisted of
Reece Sparks,
Konnor Vohs, and
Ryan Pena with 99.
Matt Lorio,
Rocky Romo,
Trace Hatfield,
Vaughn Klosowski,
Vanessa Donato, and
Bailey Lueders all hit 98 targets to tie for the fourth and fifth place spots.
The Lions won the team trap event outright with 495/500.
Jordan Ziercher posted a perfect 100 for Lindenwood.
Matt Lorio,
JJ Ralston, and
Wyatt Baine all tied for second with 99/100, and fifth place was a tie at 98/100 from
Rocky Romo,
Landon Sievers, and
Ciara Hankins.
The Lions also won the team sporting clays event with 458/500.

Tristan Stubbs posted 93, Matthew Lorio 92,
Reece Sparks 91, with
Rocky Romo,
Kelan Kinion,
Wyatt Williams,
Matthew Blankenship, tying for fifth place with 88/100.
In High Overall (HOA) competition, Lorio (289), Vohs (286), Stubbs (286), Romo (284), and Sparks (283) combined to shoot 1428/1500 to claim victory over Fort Hays by six targets. Lorio tied for Male HOA with his 289 score while Byrd finished second in Female HOA competition with 272/300.
The Lindenwood Spring Open included Fort Hays State, Simpson College, Missouri Valley College, Culver-Stockton College, Iowa Central Community College, Missouri S & T, State Fair Community College, Waldorf College, and William Wood University, in addition to Lindenwood. There were an additional 41 high school athletes that participated in the college combine portion of the event.
