The shotgun sports team finished third in the Division 1 High Overall standings at the 2021 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target National Championships March 25-27 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas. The Lions hit 1,380 targets out of a possible 1,500 across the events of American Skeet, American Trap, and Sporting Clays to finish just 34 targets behind Texas A & M in first and 26 targets behind Schreiner University in second.
Lindenwood claimed the team titles in American Skeet and American Trap, and took third in Sporting Clays.
Matthew Blankenship was one of just four shooters to post a perfect 100/100 in American Skeet.
Michael Blazek (99),
Ryan Loveless (99),
Collin Murer (99), and
Gregory Wnek (99) also contributed to the team score (496/500) in the event.
The Lions edged Texas A & M and Schreiner in American Trap by means of reverse run tiebreakers after all three schools hit 493/500 in the competition.
Noah Gouge,
Jolene Dawson, and
Shabaz Bassi all posted scores of 99 for Lindenwood, with
Ryan Pena, Loveless,
Trace Hatfield, and
Bret Crigler all hitting 98/100. Dawson claimed third place individually in the women's event.
Sam Korbs led Lindenwood in Sporting Clays with 85/100.
Shawn Hale, Bassi, and Blazek hit 77/100 and
Tristan Stubbs, Blankenship, and
Reece Sparks each posted scores of 75 as the Lions finished with 391/500 as a team.
The ACUI Collegiate Clay Target National Championships marked the end of the 2020-21 season for Lindenwood shotgun sports.
