Shotgun sports hosted its annual NCSSAA sanctioned Lindenwood Fall Open September 24-25 and swept all team events, including the Team High Overall.
Reece Sparks (283),
Trace Hatfield (279),
Matthew Blankenship (275),
Tristan Stubbs (275), and
Casey Byrd (275) shot a collective 1,387/1,500 to earn the team victory for the Lions. Schreiner University took second with a 1,382, followed by Hannibal – LaGrange in third with 1,326.
Reece Sparks took individual HOA honors with an impressive 283/300, missing only 17 targets throughout the weekend.
In American Trap, Klayton Mcgee (100),
Jolene Dawson (100),
Trace Hatfield (99), Ryan Denes (99), and
Cody Mosley (99) shot a near perfect 497/500 to take the trap team title. Mcgee took the Men's Trap title for the shoot, with Dawson taking top honors in Women's Trap. Schreiner University finished second overall with a score of 480/500.
It was another impressive performance for the Lions in American Skeet. Klayton Mcgee (100),
Reece Sparks (100),
Tristan Stubbs (99), Grace Corselli (98), and
Ethan Mathias (98) combined to shoot a 495/500. Mcgee shot an impressive 200 straight in the trap and skeet line games. Lindenwood led Schreiner by 13 targets in the final scores for the team event.
In Sporting Clays,
Christian Jackowski and
Jake Deane led the way for the team with scores of 91 and 90 respectively while
Matthew Blankenship,
Tristan Stubbs, and
Reece Sparks all tied with scores of 88. Jackowski, Deane, Blankenship, Stubbs, and Sparks combined to shoot a collective 445/500 to take the sporting clays title for the team event. Other notable scores included an impressive 97/100 from high school athlete Thomas Jacobs of Bucyrus, Kansas.
Lindenwood hosted the Trap and Skeet competitions at Gateway Gun Club in Bridgeton, Missouri while the Sporting Clays event took place at NILO Farms in Godfrey, Illinois. The Lindenwood Fall Open included Schreiner, Missouri S&T, Hannibal – LaGrange, Culver-Stockton, and the University of Central Missouri.
Shotgun sports sends athletes to the 2022 World Skeet Championship September 30 to October 7 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas and to the ACUI/SCTP International Championships October 5-9 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.
