Women's Lacrosse to Become Members of the ASUN

On Monday, the ASUN announced the addition of Lindenwood women's lacrosse to the conference starting in the 2023 season.

"We are thrilled to be joining the ASUN conference as we enter a new era competing in NCAA Division I," said head coach Jack Cribbin.  "The ASUN offers our student-athletes the opportunity to compete on a national stage and be challenged week in and week out.  The travel will only enhance the student-athlete experience and help grow our brand, as we will now be playing conference games in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Delaware.  Additionally, we are looking forward to welcoming all of our new fellow conference members to St. Charles, it's going to be tremendous for the Midwest lacrosse community.  This is yet another sign of the growth of the sport and we could not be more excited to get started."

"We are excited to have our women's lacrosse program joining the ASUN," said Interim Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Betsy Feutz.  "The longevity of this successful program led to a National Championship last year, and we look forward to bringing our competitiveness into the ASUN.  Commissioner Ted Gumbart has led by example, displaying the positive culture that the ASUN brings, and we know our women's lacrosse team will fit right in."

"We are extremely pleased to announce this partnership with Lindenwood University, a step that builds on the strong ASUN reputation for building opportunity and added value for both sides," ASUN Commissioner Gumbart said. "Lacrosse is one of the country's fastest growing sports both scholastically and collegiately, and the ASUN recognizes the need to meet this opportunity. As the sport and the ASUN both continue upward growth paths, Lindenwood's rise to Division I is a perfect fit for ASUN lacrosse. We look forward to working with the good people at Lindenwood, and having our teams visit the beautiful campus to compete in ASUN lacrosse.

The Lindenwood women's lacrosse program won the first NCAA Division II National Championship in school history to conclude the 2021 season.  The Lions have posted an overall record of 118-13 in the last seven complete seasons, as they have made seven-consecutive NCAA postseason appearances.  Lindenwood has claimed four NCAA Elite 90 Award winners to highlight the academic and athletic success.  Since 2018, 10 Lions have earned IWLCA All-American honors.

In its first 10 years in the NCAA, Lindenwood women's lacrosse boasted a record of 164-21 (.886), while going 74-5 at home.  The Lions collected eight conference titles, and made five appearances in the NCAA Final Four.  The coaching staff has been decorated throughout the years, as head coach Cribbin was named IWLCA Division II National Coach of the Year in 2021, while associate head coach Brian Smith earned IWLCA Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2018.

Currently, ASUN women's lacrosse league consists of Coastal Carolina, Delaware State, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty, and Stetson.  Jacksonville has stood atop the conference as of late, ranking No. 20 in the nation this week and looking to win its second conference crown in as many seasons.
