Lindenwood Claims Nine Titles at GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Men finish 3rd and women finish 4th; Walkes-Miller sweeps 100 & 200

The Lindenwood men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Bolivar, Missouri for the Great Lakes Valley Outdoor Championships and won a combined nine races/events and both teams earned top four finishes. The men finished with 117 points, good for third place, while the women finished with 83 points, good for fourth.

Among several Lions sprinters to have a terrific showing, Jameel Walkes-Miller was on top of the podium three times as he claimed multiple GLVC titles in the 100 and 200 meter races, and he was also member of the winning 4x100 meter relay team.  The sophomore from Barbados, pulled away in the last 30 meters to win the GLVC championship in the 100 meters in a time of 10.40.  Walkes-Miller's win was his fourth 100 meter race he has won this spring.  His time of 21.08 in the 200 meters was almost a half-second ahead of second place and is a personal best and moved him up to 8th on the Lindenwood top performances list.   Walkes-Miller was joined on the top of podium with teammates Damaine Dixon, Dorian Leda and Romon Logan as the Lions won the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 41.13.

A senior from Jamaica, Dixon may have run one of the best races of the day as he cruised to a new GLVC Championship record in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 51.70.  That breaks the old record that had been in existance since 2017. Dixon's time is only 0.02 seconds off a new school record and vaults him into the top 10 nationally.

Graduate student Samuel Yaro continued his dominance on the track this year winning the GLVC championship in the 400 meters with a time of 47.44. A graduate student from Ghana, Yaro was pulling away from the field when he crossed the finish line to beat a talented field, including teammates Boris Charles (48.32) and Romon Logan (48.61) who finished second and fourth respectively.

Senior Jacob Opdahl has competed in the javelin five times during the spring Outdoor season and has won all five of those competitions.  His fifth attempt of the day landed at 62.99 meters which was over four meters further than his next closest competitor to claim the GLVC title in the javelin.  Four of Opdahl's tosses were further than any other competitor.

On the women's side, junior Olivia Alexandre dominated the field in the 400 meter hurdles winning in a new school record time of 59.13, besting her previous top time by 0.03 seconds that was set last weekend at the Outdoor Music City Challenge.

Alexander also played a pivotable role in in the 4x400 meter relay, as the Lindenwood women's team went back and forth with Southwest Baptist for the first three legs of the race, then Alexandre took the baton for the anchor leg and immediately created separation and dominated the rest of the field to cruise to the GLVC title in a time of 3:48.92, which is the fourth fastest time in school history.

Sophomore Ashley Shoemake claimed her fourth championship in the Hammer throw this spring, as she won the GLVC Championship on Friday with a toss of 50.48 meters
