Several women's rugby players have represented USA Rugby in the past calendar year. Former Lions Eti Haungatau and Mackenzie Hawkins were both selected in the USA player pool for the Women's Rugby World Cup. Current players
Taina Tukuafu,
Freda Tafuna, and
Millie Gibson have also represented the squad on an international level.
Tukuafu and Tafuna are in Cape Town, South Africa for the month of October wearing the USA Eagles jersey to compete in the WXV 2, a competition consisting of six teams from around the world including the United States, Scotland, Japan, Italy, Samoa, and host South Africa. The Eagles will have three fixtures within the WXV 2 which will provide a great platform for the next World Cup.
The USA Eagles game schedule for the WXV 2 is as follows:
October 14 versus Samoa at 7 a.m. CDT
October 20 versus Scotland at 7 a.m. CDT
October 28 versus Italy at 10 a.m. CDT
Tukuafu and Tafuna made their debut appearances for the Eagles this past summer. Both started for the U.S. in the Pacific Four Series in Canada, facing former Women's World Cup Champions the New Zealand Black Ferns and the Australia Wallaroos.
The pair of Lions were also selected for the USA U23 squad along with Haungatau. That team traveled to Brazil in July for the America's Trophy Cup and played Brazil to a 15-15 draw and topped Colombia 27-24.
Tukuafu, Tafuna, and Haungatau also traveled to Boston as part of a USA U23 versus Canada U23 "Border Battle" consisting of two friendly matches played at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Massachusetts, home of the New England Free Jacks Major League Rugby (MLR) team.
Gibson was also in action this summer after being selected for the USA Women U20 team to play Wales in Canada.
Women's rugby hosts the St. Louis Sabres on October 14. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Lindenwood Track Complex.
