Men's Golf Takes Second During Stroke Play at OVC Championships

The Lindenwood men's golf team finished three-round stroke play at the OVC Championships in second place, compiling a team score of 854 at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Lions finished 10-under

OVERVIEW
The Lions opened the tournament with a strong team score of 289. That effort was led by Brennan Strubberg who compiled a three-under 69, including two-under on the back nine. Strubberg paced the team with six birdies overall. As a team, the Black and Gold attacked the final nine holes, shooting six under as a group.
Coming in just behind him was Renato Filho who carded an even-par 72. Filho finished the opening 18 with four birdies, all coming on the back nine. Sil Beyers fired 74, including a 35 on the final nine holes. Santiago Juesas Benet also recorded a 74 and rounding out the lineup was Mackenzie Holmes with a 75.

After 18 holes, the Lions sat in a tie for third.

Lindenwood compiled a team score of 280 during the second 18 holes, its second lowest round of the season. That effort was led by Juesas who fired a season-low round of 66 which included nine birdies. The freshman shot five-under on the back nine alone.

Filho also had a strong 18, firing a bogey-free four-under 68. He finished his round with 14 pars and four birdies. Beyers came in just behind them with an even-par 72, while Strubberg and Holmes each carded a 74.

The Lions finished the day shooting eight under and concluded the first 36 holes at seven under. Overall, the Black and Gold sat in a tie for second place and individually, Juesas and Filho were tied for fifth.

The Black and Gold kept it rolling in round three compiling a team score of 285. Both Strubberg and Holmes carded a team best 69. Strubberg finished strong with four-under on the back nine and Holmes had five birdies and an eagle across his final 18. The Lions had three eagles during the last 18 holes, most in the field.

Juesas was one of the other Lindenwood players with an eagle on the day coming on the par 5 15th. He finished with a 74, which included three birdies. Filho also recorded a 74 with the help of four birdies. Rounding out the lineup was Beyers who fired a 75, including an eagle on the 18th

The Lions finished stroke play in solo possession of second place at 10 under. Lindenwood went 21-under as a team on par 5s, tops in the field and recorded 65 birdies, second most in the field.
