ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's wrestling team competed at the Missouri Baptist University Open on Friday, with
Makayla Rivera taking first place at 180 lbs. In total, seven Lions placed in the top three of their respective weight classes, including a pair of runner-up finishes.
Rivera's championship run included a fall in 1:48 against Murray State's Jordan Bread before taking a 10-0 tech fall victory over MBU's Kenlee Fish to advance to the final, where she defeated Paola Rodriguez of Indian Hills to claim the tournament championship.
Other top three finishers included
Jacinda Espinosa (138 lbs.) and
Ally Jelinek (124 lbs.) with runner-up placements, while
Kate Cooper (110 lbs.),
Talia Lee (131 lbs.),
Madeline Haynes (145 lbs.), and
Alana Duggan (160 lbs.) all placed third.
Lindenwood finished with three top five finishers in the 138 lb. weight class, with
Marissa Sanabria placing fourth and
Kayla Edwards placing fifth.
Next Up
The Lions travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana next weekend to take part in the Warrior Open hosted by Indiana Tech. Day one of the event gets underway on Friday, January 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
