OZARK, Mo. – The Lindenwood beach volleyball team (3-1, 0-0 OVC) finished up their opening weekend of competition with a pair of wins on day two of the Missouri State Tournament on Saturday. The Lions defeated Central Arkansas 4-1 in the morning slot before taking care of McKendree with a 5-0 sweep in the afternoon.
Against the Bears, all four of Lindenwood's points were won in straight sets, with
Abby Jacobs and
Annalie McWhorter winning at the ones (21-14, 21-11),
Nyah Wilson and
Susanna Beretti taking the twos (21-18, 21-11),
Aubrey Sheppard and
Gabby Belcher handling business at the threes (21-17, 21-17), and
Myah Hough and
Lexie Schauffler prevailing at the fives (21-18, 21-12).
The dominant showing was Lindenwood's first ever win over Central Arkansas after dropping their previous four meetings, including an 0-3 mark against UCA last season.
LU did one better against McKendree in the weekend finale, winning all five pairs 2-0. It was against Jacobs and McWhorter at the ones (21-10, 21-16), Wilson and Beretti at the twos (21-11, 21-13), and Sheppard and Belcher at the threes (21-16, 21-13).
Head coach
Alli Duckworth decided to shake up the four and five pairs, teaming up
Lexie Schauffler and
Katie Bockhorst to win the fours (21-14, 21-5), and
Dixie Farish and
Morgan Willis to take the fives (21-13, 21-12).
Next Up
The Lions head back to Ozark next weekend to compete in the Beach Bear Bash. Lindenwood will face Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas, Southwest Baptist, and Missouri State over the two day event. Match one against EKU is set for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27th.
